Spain shall hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU during the second half of 2023.

Every six months, one of the EU Member States takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, also known as Council of Ministers.

During this Spanish Presidency, which will be the fifth since Spain’s accession, the Cortes Generales shall organize five standing European inter-parliamentary Conferences and three sectorial Conferences, with the participation of members of national Parliaments of EU Member States and of the European Parliament, as well as members of EU candidate countries, observers and guests.

The Cortes Generales, both the Congress of Deputies and the Senate, shall work on the basis of the priorities of the Spanish Presidency, focused on open strategic autonomy, the energy crisis and the environment, economic recovery, European values, the European Union’s social pillar and the institutional challenges faced by the Union and each of its Member States.
