The members of the Conference of Community and European Affairs Committees (COSAC) will meet in the Spanish Senate on 17 and 18 September. This meeting, which will be held within the framework of the parliamentary dimension of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, is a preparation for the plenary session of the 70th COSAC, which will be held from 26 to 28 November in Madrid.
On Monday 18 September, the President of the Senate, Pedro Rollán, and the President of the Congress of the Deputies, Francina Armengol, will speak at 9 a.m. in the opening session, which will be followed by the three subsequent sessions. The Member of Parliament, Susana Sumelzo, and the Senator, Juan Antonio Landaluce will conduct the meeting.
In the first session, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, will present the priorities of the Spanish Presidency. The First Vice-President of the European Parliament, Othmar Karas, will also speak at this session.
The second session will be followed by the President of the Ukrainian Parliament’s Committee on the Integration of Ukraine into the EU, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadre, and the President of the Swedish Riksdag’s Committee on European Union Affairs, Hans Wallmark, who will speak on the future of Ukraine in Europe.
In the afternoon, the third session of the conference will feature a debate on current issues in the European Union. Finally, the President of the Senate will close the conference.
Prior to this, on Sunday 17, the Senate will host the Presidential Troika Meeting, a preparatory session for the conference.
About COSAC
Since its creation in Madrid in 1989, COSAC (Conference of Community and European Affairs Committees) has brought together the European Affairs Committees of the national parliaments and the Constitutional Committee of the European Parliament in two meetings every six months: the COSAC Presidents’ Meeting and the Plenary Session.
The COSAC Presidents’ meeting will be the first meeting of the Spanish Presidency to be held in Madrid and will therefore be central to the Spanish Presidency’s calendar of interparliamentary meetings.
Live coverage
The meeting will be broadcast live in Youtube and the Spanish Senate website.
